Amp getting a little too hot.

So I've been running my newly installed system for about 2 weeks now, and I've finally decided to seek some help/information regarding the issue.

I have a Kenwood KAC-7204 running 1 set of Alpine SPX-13REF's. The amp has way too much power for those speakers so I don't understand what would be making it so hot. I have the sensitivity all the way down. Maybe I could make it cooler by turning that up?

It's gets to around the temperature where it's almost too hot to touch, but not quite there yet. I know their suppose to run warm but I don't think it's supposed to be that warm. Especially with the 2 fans that are in the back. Or does that amp usually run that hot?

sensitivity is set to match the input voltage of the RCA's....if you have it too low the amp has to work harder to get the same output as what would be coming out if they were matched...

So you think i should turn it up then. I don't want to blow my comps though lol. Just trial and error it you think? lol

or talk to gmonk...or orangecounty1...or some others in the tampa area....they'll help you out in person
I can make the adjustments, just need to know what may be causing it. I'll turn it up a little bit and see what happens. Worst case scenario I have to get a new pair of comps right? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I fooled with it a little but and turned the gain up and it still gets really hot.

Any other suggestions fellas?

could be running at low of a ohm but i doubt that...maybe your power wire is tooo small? or a bad ground? or the location of the amp doesnt give good air flow? or just couold be that its a kenwood amp?

lol probably that last one //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I got a 4ga power cable and the ground is good, I think it is at least. It's grounded right to the chassis by one of those big *** terminal things secured by a washer and a bolt. The amp is in the trunk and doesnt get any air flow. so that could be it.

I think i mentioned above that its only running a set of Alpine SPX-13REF's which should be a walk in the park for this amp.

I guess if it gets hot running comps then it's not going to be able to handle a RE SE 12" if i decide to upgrade to that lol.
