Amp gain settings

So I went to visit my cousin to salinas the other day. While I was there I came up across an audio shop and well I set my gains myself. They were like at 35% or less. SO I asked the guy at the shop if he could set my gains and he said yeah $25 and I asked him if they used an O-Scope to go head for both my amps. He said that no that usually a speaker tells you what freq it plays and which one it doesn't and you just put your crossover and that the gain is for the watts you want to put in.That you just set it by ear if i remember correctly or if its 50 watts and ur amp is 150 rms to set gains at 33% ..Is this true? I know all abut the crossovers n **** but that not really.

Wtf kind of shop hires an install guy that thinks "A speaker tells you what frequency it plays and which one it doesn't." You should've charged him $25 for telling you that.

Well technically that's true. When the speakers take a ****, they're telling you they don't like to play that last frequency anymore.
