Got my new amp installed the other day and used a DMM. I set the gain @ 56v so i could get 1600 RMS out of my Clarion DPX11551. But I was stumped. There were 3 different voltage options and im unsure of what they do. It was .2 - .6v (the one i chose) then 2 - 6v and like .6 - 2v what do these other settings mean? i couldnt get the voltage on my DMM upto 54v on any of these settings other than .2 - .6v and im just curious what the other ones are/mean?

It is just where the decimal point is on your meter. Mine can be set to have two places to the right of the decimal (hundreds) x.xx, or one place (tens) xx.x, or no decimal xxx

FAIL!

Those switches are the input gain senstivity switches. They match the output of your headunit. If your headunit puts out .2-.6 (1 volt basically) preouts then use that setting, if the preouts are .6-2 (2 Volts basically) use that setting, anything above 2 V preouts use the 2-6 V setting.

Just because you can get 56V out of the amp does NOT mean the amp is set right. It is probably clipping and thats why an O-Scope is the best way of tuning. Not saying what you did is wrong, because unless you have a shop or are an EE an O Scope isn't a necessary purchase....
