amp for SS 10" RL-i's

i need an amp to push two soundsplinter 10 RL-i's. they are rated at 500wattsrms. should i go ahead and use a ED 9.1 which is rated at 1200watts rms at 1 ohm? or will that be too overpowering? its 350$. or should i take up the deal on the ED 9.2 which is on sale for 170 dollars this week. i could use two of those and push 400 watts to each sub.
