hey im new(b) to amps just wondering what y'all recomend for 6x9 kappas. they are 3 way 110rms 300w max. think they are 693.3is?

Ive been running them off a pioneer deck 50wx4 mosfet as well as two 5"kappas in the front.

need to know would too much power blow my speakers?

do i have to get a 2 channel? does it help?

should i be looking at 2ohms? or 4? etc.

do the more expensive amps really make much sound quality difference?

thanks

so 4ohms is best?
Not necessarily, but it is what you have so that's the resistance value you need to keep in mind when trying to match your speakers with outboard amplification.

but dont i need 220? 110x2?
You actually have several options.

a) Run the 5" speakers off of the head unit and amplify the 6x9s. (I assume they are in the rear?) This will make your rear fill drivers overpower your front stage and essentially eliminate any possibility of proper imaging. I'd wager most on this foum would recommend you don't do that.

b) Get a four-channel amp and amplify all your speakers. Provided your settings on both the head unit and the amp are adjusted properly this can provide with much louder, authoritative music. This is the route I would go, were it me. (I like a more present rear ambience than most, I suppose)

c) Amplify the front stage and run the rears off of the head unit. This will bring life to your front stage while keeping the much larger back speakers from overpowering it.

Those 6x9s are rated for 110w RMS. This doesn't mean you must put 110 watts into them for them to work well. 50~70 clean watts into most 6"x9" coaxials will make 'em sing pretty good.

need to know would too much power blow my speakers?
The simple answer is "Yes, it can."

do i have to get a 2 channel? does it help?
You do not have to -and- It can, respectively.

should i be looking at 2ohms? or 4? etc.
See my second sentence //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

do the more expensive amps really make much sound quality difference?

They can. yes. But the difference in pricing isn't always completely about sound. Product build quality and the resultant lifespan due to quality or shoddy workmanship can make huge dollar differences. A given unit's capabilities also play a very large role in cost. There are units that are rated for a couple hundred watts that will do a couple hundred watts. There are also units rated for a couple hundred watts that make over a thousand. Reckon these are priced the same? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Like I said - I figure a 4ch amp would be the best option for you. Like posted by Mackenzie something in the range of 45~70 wpc RMS would make a pretty good match for your Infinities.

Hope this helps at all and good luck with it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

yea thanks youve really helped. apreciate it.

couple of questions back for you though.... sorry //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

what i dont understand is the headunit gives off 50w to each speaker. (so it says?)

and the fronts take 50w rms.

so dont they have pretty much all the power they can take?

Also I understand Id be getting most sound from the back but short of installing 6x9s in the front and modding my car (too much for me) I thought 6x9s amped in the back would work pretty much like a sub for the bass whilst the fronts on a lower volume would made it sound not totally one sided.

I totally understand this isnt the best setup but i was under the impression the fronts wont take more and id prefer a bit more volume/bass then i currently have unamped.

thanks again.

First off it will be best just to amp all 4 of them, rather just amping the rear. You dont sit in the rear. The most important speakers are your fronts, thats where all your imaging is at. If you were only going to amp one set of speakers, then I would only amp the fronts. Gives better imaging, atleast in my car. As for deck power. Decks may say 50*4, but that is peak power. Most decks put out around 20 watts each channel.

ok thanks. but i take it getting an amp to power both sets of speakers, Id only be able to give them 50w rms each as you can only split it in two right? so Id have to get 2 2 channel amps to get the most out of my speakers? also when you amp the front speakers where do you put the amp?

thanks

No! If you have 4 speakers in your car, then you can get a 4 channel amp to run all four of them. You dont need 2 amps. As for where do you put the amp, where ever you want. You can mount them in the trunk, behind the seat, under a seat, wherever you want.

ok thanks. but if i have a 4 channel i can only run 55 to the fronts and backs correct? so the back ones will get less then half their top rms?

You can run as much power to them as you want. Just pick out a decent amp. somewhere around 70.4, and you should be fine. You dont have to run speakers at their listed rms to get performance out of them.

70.4?? is that a joke lol.

sorry i mean to say if the front speakers can take 55w rms in the front will a 4channel only divide the power equally. so 55w rms for the fronts and 55 for the back?

so can you channel different amounts of power to seperate speakers from the same amp?
that is possible, but not at the same impedence, you're looking for 4ohms.

mackenzie was tryin to say get a 4 channel amp /w about 70 watts per channel. that's what im doing rite now, i have 6.5 kappas in the front and 6x9 kappas in the back, it works out fine for me.
