Amp efficiency, mtx

Before I start, I have a 120 amp alt., stock battery, and am doing the big 3 Tuesday. I am pretty sure if I run anywhere over 1200 watts, it won't be too good, so I want everything I get to be very efficient. The entire system in my sig will be sold w/in a week, I am looking to get PG Rsd's, and a 15" Q D2

My questions are, what are my best options for efficiency? How many watts do you think I could safely run w/o major dimming/volt drops? And most importantly, what amps would be my best bets?

I was looking at the mtx 7801 because it is only 260ish after shipping, and I heard it is a very reliable amp for the money. Before looking at that amp I was looking at the hifonics 1606, but it would be the opposite of the MTX, and very overrated.

I know the MTX is class D, but I couldn't find the actual efficiency anywhere.

I'm looking for any recommendations, because I don't have any experience besides Sony. I was also looking at the alpine PDX150.2 because it is the most efficient speaker amp I could find.

Thanks for all recommendations and help!

120's not a small alt.

I had a 110A in my old Tbird with an old battery that ran 1060w with no problems at all - very slight dimming at full tilt. 700w class D and 360 class a/b. Same system is now in my Contour with 130A alt and it doesn't even flinch.

Most any class D will get you ~70%. The JL slash amps are unusually low, and some of the cheaper brands are probable sub 70, but some of the newer higher end brands are claiming mid 80's-90%.

If you're looking at around 1000w, a 10% efficiency difference won't be drastic. I don't think it's enough of a reason to determine which amp to get, however, I do think class D would be the way to go.

FWIW - if money's an issue here's an affordable option that's pretty similar to that Alpine but quite a bit cheaper.
