Amp distorting or subs?

Alright, im new to car audio and i have a question. When i start to turn it up on certain songs a get this bow sound coming from my subs. My amp says 300w and it says its bridgeable and has a crossover and bass boost. And thats it, i have searched the entire internets for information. Its a majestic amp and im guessing the 300w is 1 x 300 @ 4 ohms. Subs can take 150 rms a piece. So why distortion?

The only problem is that im unsure what my amp is putting out... Since i cant find any info on it and dont have the manual

It is a majestic ma 650.

Also why not just set the gain by ear?

Well, i can set it by ear but im really wondering what is causing these subs to distort. And if i can see that the amp is clipping, then that will help me fix the problem. This amp does not have a clip light.
