Amp dead on arrival :(

Well, i got my kenwood excellon 25th anniversary xxv-02a amplifier hooked up tonight, and it just goes into protection mode. It says 'condition 02' which means 'the amplifier has failed and is sending current directly to the speakers.'

Greeeeat.

Well, i bought the amp off of an unauthorized ebay retailer, so i'm not entitled to the warranty. I have two options: A. take the amp to the local authorized kenwood repair shop and have it fixed with money i don't really have right now or B. take my chances sending the unit back to the unauthorized dealer to have it replaced with a KAC-X541 or repaired (but i've heard of things going to indoaudio.com for repair and never returning)

So if you were me, would you take your chances with having the unit replaced with a KAC-X541 or take it to a local shop and have it repaired?

If the amps completely blown where it's sending that error message, how costly could it be to fix? i only spend $250 on the amp, shipped.

And is the KAC-X541 identical to the xxv-02a besides cosmetics? I really don't want to sacrifice quality for convenience. I was really looking forward to using the 02a, it seemed like a solid unit, and is cea2006 rated at 88w rms x 4, which is ideal for my speakers.

Anyone have any input, i'd really appreciate it. All i wanna do is get my stereo in my car, so i can stop worrying about it. I've had soooo many problems so far, it's really getting frustrating.

Again:

1.) Pay a local shop to fix it?

2.) Send to indoaudio for replacement with a KAC-X541

3.) Send to indoaudio to be fixed?

Thanks a lot!

Oh, and just to clarify, i unhooked all 4 speakers, and all 4 rca's and it still went into condition 02 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

This is a bummer, i just paid over $700 to have my entire system custom installed.

And between my kenwood and my hifonics amps, i least expected to have a problem with the kenwood.

You're more than likely going to spend at least halfo f what you paid in fixing it. You may come out lucky, but probably not.

Contact Indo, make sure they know they ****ed you over, and send it back if you'er confident enough in them.

And to add insult to injury, i just realized spring break is next week, and i was really looking forward to crusing around to some tunes. Now i have no music besides my type-x's (which are slammin' HARD, by the way)

Well, how likely is it to get it fixed RIGHT for less than $200? That's the most i'd be willing to spend to be able to get it back by the weekend. More than that, and it'd be worth a couple weeks of downtime waiting for a new unit.

They sound amazing! But it's really hard to put the bass in reference to no music, hehehe. i'm killing the fuse till i get my amp repaired.

I decided i'm just gonna have it done locally. The shop down the street is an authorized kenwood fixer upper, and from the searching i've done, most repairs are relatively inexpensive, it's the initial bench charge that's killer, since i don't know what's wrong with it yet.

I took the amp to the local kenwood shop today. I decided playing guessing games with indo was just more stress than i can take at this point after all i've been through lately.

The shop's called dale's color tv, btw, in case anyone's in my area, and they seem really fair. $45.50 bench fee, then $45.50 for actual labor if i decide its' worth fixing, plus parts. Not bad at all, imo.

Oh, and today the amp started actually turning on. I tried it one more time, and the speakers were actually playing for a few seconds before it went into protect, so i know it's not a blown channel, probably just an internal wiring fault. So i'm a little less stressed now.

Woo!

Look at all of Indo Audio's negative feedback lately. I've been fighting with them & E-bay about getting some speakers I ordered 1.5months ago. They won't ship due to a warehouse issue & won't refund. It seems they are not a reputable company.

Good luck on geting it fixed. Hopefully it's something that won't be too expensive.

I had a run in with indoaudio a few weeks ago on a car alarm purchase...

that stupid andale check out wouldn't approve my new address since its

not on file with my cc company. Indoaudio wanted to send it to the house

registered with the cc, and since katrina that house no longer exists...

they have no workmanship... business's need to cater to their customers
