amp cutting out

whenever i hook my eq up after my cd player and before my 4 chan. amp my amp cuts off at high volume but if i just run rcas from cd player to my amp i can turn it up as loud as i want and everything is fine, what could this be, the eq is a eqs746

it sounds like it has to high of an output to the amp possibly but I don't know what amp your running but the eq has 7v rms outputs that's all I can figure?

Sounds to me like you are OVER DRIVING the amp on the input side......Can you adjust the output level on the EQ?

Your head unit probably has 2V or 4V preouts, the EQ has 7V outputs, the function of the gain is to match the amplifiers output to the input signal. The relative position of the gain is meaningless, half way with a 2V signal might be acceptable but half way with a 7V signal not so much. You are potentially sending 2-3 times the input signal to the amp when you are using the EQ. Your gains need to be adjusted to match.

How about turning the eq master volume all the way down and bringing it up slowly?
