amp cutting off

i have a weird problem that should be simple but i can't seem to fix it. i have a kicker zx1000 amp running two 10's (cvx's) at a 2 ohm load. the ground is fine and i'm running 4 gauge power and ground. the amp will play for about 20-30 minutes strong and then i start to here a clicking sound inside the amp and it won't play for more than 3 seconds without clicking off. this happens even at low and no volume. the problem goes away if i unplug the amp for a couple days just so it can play for 20 minutes and start clicking again. any advice? i'm might just send the amp in for the warranty and try a new one. before that i'm going to check the voltage but i have a feeling it won't help me solve this problem.

nope...the amp shuts off well before the amp is even warm to the touch. also the same thing happens with my windows down in 70 degree weather and the amp is mounted with great airflow. also the amp would go into the clicking mode and i could turn it off for 4 hours and try again and it would do the same thing within 1 minute. thanks for trying to help though, anyone else?

yes the amp is 2 ohm stable, that is where it makes the "1000" watts hence it's name. the subs are dual 2 ohm. voice coils are in series and the subs are in parallel.

if its the same as the old xs100, you will need more current as in battery power.add some more baterys to your system, that might work forya

i don't think i'll be adding anymore batteries to my car, because it doesn't have the room (350Z). i guess my only option now is to upgrade my power and ground to 2 gauge and see if that makes a difference.

Call Kicker... even if its an old amp they will still try to help. I had great customer service from them. I would guess voltage issues... too high or too low sending the amp into protect. But that is just a guess. You can check your ground with a dmm and your voltage too see if you are within spec when the bass is hitting...

i measured 14.3 volts at the amp but can't see what happens when the bass hits because all it does is click on and off. screw it, i'm sending it in for the warranty and if the same problem happens with the new amp then i know it's me and not the amp.

haha, don't think i'll be doing that anytime soon. i know close to nothing about the internals of an amplifier but thanks alot for trying to help. i'll post some information on how things go when i upgrade the power and ground...and then i'm sure that won't help so i'll post what happens with the new amp. thanks again everyone

It still could be a voltage problem but it really is starting to sound like an amp protect issue. I have seen this exact problem with low impedance loads but as you state you are OK on that issue. Perhaps your amp needs work.
