amp cooling options

im currently trying to figure out a good way to keep my amp cool.

it get relatively warm being in the trunk.

i was thinking maybe getting some wood and making corner stands where you mount the amp at and raising the amp a few inches and possibly installing a fan under the amp and removing the back cover of the amp.

seem my best option as of now. i have a few old computer fans i never used from when i built my pc. are they acceptable to use? or should i look into a different fan? i dont know the specs on the fans maybe 2000+ rpms

Are they shutting down? Heat sinks get hot, that means they are working. If it's a good amp and it didn't come with a fan it's not needed.

My amps are black, mounted upside down, in a black cars trunk. They get hot just sitting but they are perfectly fine.

brutus series amp.

not the best but does what i want untill i get some money later on this month.

they dont shut down at all. just get warm and after a while of pounding the subs 30 min, it gets prtty warm.

I'll add a fan or two only if enclosing the amp in a rack or rear tire well just to keep some air flow.if the amp is out and about then you probaly won't need a fan.if the amp gets too hot to touch you might have some other issues.if you do add a fan raising the amp is probaly not needed.keep in mind most fans make noise which you may or may not hear depending where they are.

i opened my trunk and the amp itself is just plain hot as hell without it being on for hours. it just gets really hot in my trunk so. im sure the heat build up while its in use is not good for it either.

You can raise the amp with 4-5 washers on each screw tab..To raise the amp up..A fan will work very well in most cases without removing the casing in which will allow unwanted dirt/dust to the exposed board..The computer fans may work for you, but they generally down throw very many CFMs to serve any justice..Sonic Electronix.com used to carry a Stinger/XS 105 CFM fan for like $20 bucks shipped that will serve very nicely and move some air for you.Ive always raised every amp Ive ever installed.Giving some air flow needed

Some people keep saying it's fine they get hot. Doings it job blah. But heat kills eletronics lol, work around CSC room and it's 60 degrees 24/7 true them blade systems have tons of fans but heat build up is not a " good " thing.

well another thing i could try is using the vent from the truunk that exits out just behind the rear wheel well . i could somehow maybe make a bracket to fit there and use a strong exhaust type of fan and pull out the heat fro inside the trunk. but then i dont know what it will do for the sound from the subs.

maybe not a good idea?
