amp clipping or distorting?

is it possible for an amp to be amplifing and moving sub but not making any sound? My sub box is perfect and not leaking any air, its ported and sounded great until i switched to a class d mono amp. now It seems I have now bass unless i turn the volume way up or turn the gain way up. It dosent sound good at all but the sub is moving alot. it sounds like its cancelling out or something. It only hits around 40 hz hard everything else kinda runs together, it sounds like a bandpass box. Is it possible the amp is doing this? at 30 hz the sub is looking like full xmax but not making any sound. where did the bass go?

no not pre fab, i built it, tuned at 38hz. but even at that, it was bangin the lows before i changed amps. its not got any musical qualities at all, not like before. music like styx, with the kick drums are non existant, it only hits on rap with 35 to 55 hz bass lines. ? idk. thought maybe it could be a clipped signal since the box jams in other vehicles. ive had this box for 1.5 years 3/4 mdf , 10 inch aq sdc 2.5 planet audio 650.1

Sounds more to me like you've got an issue with the settings on the amp. Set your LPF, Subsonic, and gain correctly then get back to us.

dosent matter what i do on the subsonic, lows still aint there. I have it all the way down 15hz. gain is matched to hu fine and low pass is on 80 hz. I tried turning all theses adjustments up just in case they were backwards but no it got worse. so all is set like i want it to hit lows but they aint there.oh well, i was just wondering if the amp could be faulty as the lpf is working as well as the subsonic filter, i may try to extend the port but i dont think thats the problem. seems like a low quality amp compared to the rf i had.
