hey guys, what amp would you suggest to power 2 12 inch sony explodes, with a peak power of 1200 watts?? And will these subs hit hard??
No offense here, but if he is running sony xplod subs he is probably not up for such a higher class amp. I would suggest going with what you can find that will fit your budget best and give off an RMS suitable to the subs. The peak is by far of no worry as you will destroy those subs if you go with an amp that will push them at that high of a level.Originally posted by Frraksurred Right, your best bet is a good mono D class amp. You can bridge a 2 ch amp as well but it won't have quite the punch of the D class (mono). I think the peak output for those spkrs is a bunch of media hype. The RMS is the only figure to concern yourself with. The only 12" Xplods I could find online that were rated at 1200w peak were the aluminum ones and they ran about 400w RMS. Depending on what H/U you are using (i.e. my Alpine has a 4v pre-out so I like to use their amps) there are plenty of good 200w+ RMS mono amps that you could run your 12's in parallel to (for a 2 ohm load) for 400w. Typically you will get what you pay for, so steer clear of the bargain amps. I like JL Audio, Alpine and RF myself, although I hear good things about Audiobahn too.
Here's a pretty reasonable place to shop that I found while browsing but I haven't ordered anything from them yet so I can't verify their integrity.
