Amp Causing Sub to "Pop"

Just a quick question, I have had this problem for awhile, but it has been noticably worse in the last little while. Whenever I adjust the RCA's going into the amplifier when the power is on, my subwoofer seems to "pop," sounds like thunder almost. It happens sometimes too when I go over large bumps, or when people are sitting in the backseat (the amp is on the back of the backseat). Not sure if this is an amplifier problem, or a RCA problem, but it did this with my last sub, so it has to be one of the two. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks a million!

If it's occuring just from going over bumps as you mentioned, then you likely have an intermittent/cold solder joint on the RCA inputs on the amp, or you have bad RCAs. Replace the RCAs with another pair and if the problem persists it's likely the amp. Could also be on the HU end as well, but to determine that you would have to swap another amp in.

It seems to happen going over larger bumps, as well as when people are sitting in the backseat. It will happen randomly sometimes while just driving, so it is a little annoying. I will look into the RCA thing, what brand and type of RCA would you recommend? It seems to be something to do with the RCA at the amp end, or else the RCA slots on the amp, I will check it out though.

The deck is an Alpine. How would the RCA outputs on the HU blow? I am a little confused at this. Do you guys think it has something to do with the RCA's, or is it an amp problem? I guess trying out a new pair of RCA's will help determine that?

it happens while people are sitting in the backseat as well (amp is on the back of the backseat), and also at random times while driving. i will look into new RCA's asap, and if the same problem occurs..then it is an amp problem? what kind of RCA's are recommened?

umm i run an alpine...9831...same EXACT problem. ****in sub pops like crazy sometimes even when the car is just standing still. pot holes? yes pops. speed bumps? yes pops. oh btw, at least in my scenerio...its my cd player.

i can't imagine it being good... but i haven't had any problems with this...
