ok, my friend came over after we successfully installed his 2 12" subs and a rockford 400.4 4 channel amp. it was pounding and sounded great. however the amp was getting warm like it should, but once we opened the trunk, smoke was coming from the amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif it must of overheated, this amp does NOT have a fuse for itself. we let it cool, it didnt work when we powered the sys back up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif ok, i found that the fuse at the battery was blown, replaced it, then when i go to attach the positive battery terminal to the battery, it spark and blows the fuse again. we checked ALL the wiring, NO shorts found, since it was just working perfectly. im thinking the amp is rejecting the power from the battery and reverberating it back to the battery blowing the fuse, every time. whats goin down? i think we popped the amp. i really thought amps like those would auto-shutoff before it killed itself //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

his HU and speakers work fine and all but whenever the power lead is connected to the amp, the fuse blows. seeing that the amp actually was smoking makes me believe it was an amp problem, like i said, the system was just working fine when it fried itself. we checked the power cable itself, all was good, no shorts, the ground wire was attached correctly and securely, everything seemed a-ok but it was blowing the fuses everytime we tried to plug the + terminal to the battery.

come on, im really curious. the subs are profile Baja, rated at 200watt. the amp, RF 400.4 is rated at 400 max, obviously hooking two subs up makes it 200watt a sub correct? was the amp overloading itself? I NEED HELP!!!!!

tell ya the truth the amp is more than likely burned up .....have it checked out //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif doesnt that piss ya off

If your amp cant flow off its ground on a equal base that it gets its power feed then this might occur

You should bring it back or test it on a 12v travo. Either way, GET FUSES !!!!

You want a fuse in your trunk and a fuse at your battery, shorting can come from both sides and if you'r unlucky and have a good short your cables might melt throughout your car, something you dont want considering a fuse aint expensive //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
