amp blew in new install

my friend just hooked up his hifonics BXI1610D amp and as soon as he turned the cd player on, you could see the amp sparking inside and smoke poured out of it. i have checked all the wiring and everything is hooked up fine. what could have caused this to happen? amp is 1 ohm stable and i checked the sub wiring and they are at 1 ohm.

thats the only thing that i could think of. he bought it new off of ebay from a guy with 87,000 feedback at 99.2% positive and who i have previously bought amps from in the past with no problems
