Am i the only one that hates selling things?

You just have to be upfront and honest with people.
I work in sales, but luckily I'm not commissioned. It would be really crappy right now if I was commission based since I work in a golf store and winter time isn't exactly very busy since its 0 degrees out.

I've found that just being honest with people and saying what they need and don't need usually ends up in a sale anyways. Also, I try to make it a point to state that I'm not paid on commission so the customer doesn't feel like they are getting pressured into buying something.
Word up, people are reasonable.

I don't mind someone being friendly and asking if I need help, that's just fine. If I say I don't need it, or I'm just looking that's really all I'm doing.

Some people pressure and that just makes me want to leave.

Ever tried suggestive sales?

I work at a butcher counter, sometimes people ask whats good or what not, and if you say something like "You know, so and so is really good with that" they usually buy it.

I couldn't imagine paying $50 for a pair of jeans...
Yeah seriously those jeans are not worth 300 bucks lol just buy a pair of ****in dark denim jeans from Marshals for 20 bucks and slap some patches on them.........

I've paid 80$ for jeans twice though I have to admit.

As for sales, people always tell me I'd be good at it and my company tried to get me to join the sales team (phone sales), but I don't want to have to stress every day about commissions and end up ****ing people over just to get paid. I'd rather get a little less cash and do more interesting/less exploitive things.

Exactly. My problem is I could never screw someone over or even upsell someone just so I could make an extra buck. I feel a man is worth his wage, he does work and he gets paid. When I worked in the restaurant sometimes the cooks would ask me why I wasn't out front serving and making more money and I would tell them I couldn't depend on people liking me to make money or deal with upselling (guy orders a beer you don't ask the size just bring him a big one, it was something the servers were trained to do.) I like to work but I can't be out there dancing around and telling jokes so I can earn an extra buck, I can make the job fun but much rather just do my work and take my paycheck.

As many have said its not a job for everyone, I could sell stuff not on commision easy enough, people wanna buy something and got questions I can do that, but to have to go and grab people and talk them into something is not what I do.

Being that theres quite a few golf club manufacturers and each company has a few different styles, suggestive selling is half of the sales I do. People ask the obligatory questions like "which club hits farther" or "i want more forgiveness" and so forth, to which I reply "so and so's model is designed for more distance". That usually helps people make a decision.

Then you try to tack on accessories like golf gloves, golf balls, tees, headcovers, etc.

It's really hard to keep up with all the new models because companies change shit so often and add new products. People that haven't bought new clubs in 5+ years pretty much are in the dark about everything that's out now.

At HT they don't really MAKE us sell like crazy, we're supposed to try to add on to peoples purchases and what not. I actually ended up getting a juggalo to spend about 120 bucks more than he originally planned because i used the whole "I see that you're into ______ band, did you see this new ______ item that we just got in". or for the girls its kind of a "oh, you're buyin a skirt, well, if you're showin off your're legs, why dont ya check out out fishnets and stockings"

I like working at a shop, but when it comes to sales i always feel uncomfortable, like i'm ripping someone off.... even if i'm giving them a great deal.
thats why i like doing installs for people, but i refuse to work at a shop.

Not only do I hate selling things, I hate when people try to sell to me. I'm not effing retarded. I research before I just up and buy something. I usually know more than the people trying to sell to me. Idiots.

Thats because u r ripping dem off, selling that STD playhouse ***** of yours.

Yes. I like helping people and everything. Just wish i wasn't limited to certain products, wish i knew what the customer was actually going to listen to and use the stuff for... rather than just what they want to use it for. Shit like that.
Lol I just tried to flick the bug in ur sig off my screen
