Word up, people are reasonable. You just have to be upfront and honest with people.
I work in sales, but luckily I'm not commissioned. It would be really crappy right now if I was commission based since I work in a golf store and winter time isn't exactly very busy since its 0 degrees out.
I've found that just being honest with people and saying what they need and don't need usually ends up in a sale anyways. Also, I try to make it a point to state that I'm not paid on commission so the customer doesn't feel like they are getting pressured into buying something.
I don't mind someone being friendly and asking if I need help, that's just fine. If I say I don't need it, or I'm just looking that's really all I'm doing.
Some people pressure and that just makes me want to leave.
Ever tried suggestive sales?
I work at a butcher counter, sometimes people ask whats good or what not, and if you say something like "You know, so and so is really good with that" they usually buy it.
