Am I starting to hate large subs?

So my whole system is under construction and for about a week I had only my rear speakers and 2 JL 6w3v3s running (mounted up front). The bass was so tight and snappy. When I rewired my 2 12" Infinity subs, they only muddied my music and I lost the snappiness I had before. Is this the beginning of me turning my back on larger subs?

Has anyone else (who cares about sound quality) came to this realization?

Thats kind of unfair. Your comparing the sound from the JLs to the Infinitys. The difference in SQ that you hear to your ears may not just be a size difference //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

For my music listening habits, I tend to prefer the sound of 8s or 10s. On any given day you will find me listening to rock, metal, drum & bass, electrohouse, or breakbeat. It is extremely rare that you will catch me listening to rap and then it has to be rap from the 90s or before. This new stuff is pure garbage!

thats what i thought until i heard tech 9,first and only rapper that i like 9/10 songs on 2 disc cd's

That "snap" and "punch" you're hearing in the 6w3's is more midbass than it is true subbass.

Just need to setup your subs properly and you can achieve the same results with any size sub and gain true subbass response in the process.

And/or beef up your midbass drivers.

Pretty much any sub you look at will provide you with that - you don't necessarily have to look at a smaller size. Like Squeak said, balance out your system by concentrating on the mid-bass levels. Then, fill in the bottom. By doing this you won't have to throw out your current subs either - Just build a different box for them.
