Am I right?

So I have a set of Rainbow Profi Line cs265 comps and they are rated at 180 watts, at 4 ohms.

So if I purchase a zapco c2k 6.0 amplifier (2x150watts @ 4 ohms) , the only thing I can power with this is my Rainbows right? And it will provide around the rms rating for the rainbows (as Zapco's power ratings are always under rated compared to the birth sheets they provide..)

I'm just more or less confused with this whole ohm law..

I got a 9.0x c2k amp already, I'll be using it to run my subs (that I have yet to purchase...)

Well, I am confused as to what you are asking. But you say you do not understand the whole "ohm law thing", so why don't I start with a bit on ohm loads regarding speakers and amps first.

The ohms thing has to do with the fact that different speakers can load any given amp in different ways. The comps you got are a 4ohm load. Maybe your subs will be a 2ohm load. Maybe a 1ohm, or even a 8ohm (unlikely, but possible).

Once you know the load of your speakers, and the highest wattage they will handle (180w, in the case of your comps, apparently), you look at the right set of ratings for amps you are interested in. In the case of your comps you are interested in the 4ohm rating. You then try to find an amp that put out up to, but not usually any more than, the 180w your speakers say is their max.

If you found an amp you like that is rated for 150w at 4ohms that you like and can afford, that is great. It also tells me you may already understand what I mentioned above, but I really do not understand what you are asking in the first place. What do you mean by "the only thing I can power with this is my Rainbows, right?"

You have two component channels, right? A pair of mids and a pair of highs, for one high and one mid per channel? If that is the case, and the Zapco only has two channels, the Zapco would not be able to power, say a subwoofer, in addition to your comps. I do not know if that is what you are asking, though. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif Maybe you could try asking your question again, in a different way? I have tried to cover the basic info you would need to figure out what would work with your comps, though. Good luck!

I've been on these forums for awhile, and that is the first time I've seen someone take the time to actually input the ohm symbol... that is awesome.
/me = easily amused
Ω :p It's been put on here before, it's alt + 490 on the numpad and bam, you have ohmage //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Ohmage!!

Why am I having a feeling you're confusing the RMS and MAX wattage on those comps...

For those Profi Line comps the maximum peak wattage it can handle is 180watts, constant power handling is theoretically half, in this case 90w, of the max but usually it's around 50w to 70w.

Now, what you want is an amp that can do RMS of 100w @ 4ohms. That should have enough power to keep the sound dynamic and less distorted.
