alternator wiring

I am getting a new 220 amp alternator. One of the wires from my old alternator is broken. Its the wire that goes from the alternator to a little distro block type thing on my fuse box. that wire then goes to the positive battery terminal. Is it ok to replace this wiring with some 8 gauge wiring when i put my new alternator in. Then do the big three with 1/0 gauge wiring?

replace it with the same size wiring, if its 8 awg, use 8 awg, if its 4 awg, use 4 awg, the factory knew what they were doing(to say the least) when they ran the wiring to the fuse box....
