helped buddy install system and now have alternator whine...

car: 99 toyota solara

hu: 4-5 year old kenwood mid grade (2 sets of preouts)

sub: cvx 12

amp: zx750.1

speakers: all stock jbl factory

we did tried to set the gains with the dmm, we were going to disconnect the speakers but forgot to do so and had it all hooked up so we said screw it and just played a 50hz -3db test tone, put the high pass on the speakers at 180hz...

unfortunately some of the bass still got out to the speakers and the front left seem to have blew up...

now we get a alternator whine when the car is turned on...NONE when its just on ACC, but when it's turned on, there is a hissing noise, and when driving, the rev's increase the noise...

we've tried a ground loop isolator and tried the grounding of the rca cables trick...neither worked, any other suggestions?

the wiring grounding trick worked magically with my pioneer 880prs, but obviously not in this case...HELP!!

1) check all grounds, if you have the means ground everything to a distribution block, and then make a run to the battery neg for a perfect ground

2) dont use factory wiring for the HU grounds

3) disconnect the radio antenna (mine caused noise in my system)

alt whine is caused by bad grounds

you think the ground on the amp for the sub could affect it as well?

or is it most likely the HU's?

i'll double check all for sure too...

do you have any wire around? like a nice long 10g or something?

you can try to ground the amp to the battery, going outside the car, and see if that take care of the noise.

there really isnt a "most likely". it could be any one, or a combination of them, that are causing the problem. and just checking them visually wont do you any good, as the problem could be at the welds of the vehicle, and not your actual grounding point.
