alternator replacement question

hey do you guys think a stock 100 or 105 amp alternator could be replaced with an 85 amp model and still run. because when i replaced mine im not sure which i got and i cant find any ID numbers or amp rating on it and the guys at the parts store couldnt tell?

it should, just wont have the capability of the 105 amp alt...how could you have gotten the wrong one?
