Alternator Randomly at 18 Volts!

All the sudden today my mean green alternator is charging at 18 Volts! My yellowtop up front started bubbling and my powermaster in the back started smoking or steaming. What could cause this? it used to charge at 14.7

I wouldn't run that car until you get a new voltage regulator.

It probably has a internal regulator, which is bad.

Bad regulator. Probably shit out of luck if its internal. External, they could probably send you a new one.

make sure you have insurance if you do plan on still using the car.... definatly full coverage

thanks for the replies. i put my old alternator in and it stays at 13.7 volts. I'm planning on sending the mean green back to the company and i may look into buying a different alternator like and excessive amperage.

its covered under warranty for a whole year. send it in. its a bad voltage regulator.

the dude over there is nicer than hell and always willing to help out.
