Alternator Question

my 95A stock ranger alt held up for about two years running over 3000 watts and charging two batteries. and over that time my voltage drop wasn't too bad considering... but obviously there was a lot of stress on it and eventually it died on my way home from work. i'd say if you're running over one thousand or more watts you should look for a HO alternator or carry a spare OEM because it will eventually burn up...

Roughly, I would agree that 1000RMS is the most you'd want to consider, and even then expect to upgrade the wire under your hood with the 'big three'. Worse case you'd have to get a good AGM battery under the hood.

You don't need to consider HO alt unless you plan on running 2000RMS +. You could probably get away with extra batteries in the trunk until then.

i was running about 1500 rms on my ranger for a while, i had some good voltage drop, but my alt is fine now.

I'm about to put in an Ohio alt though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I ran ~1100 in an '88 Ford with a 75A alt. Fairly demanding stock electrical system as well.

Unless you happen to be running the least efficient amps ever built I would expect 1000w to run w/o much trouble -- stock alt, stock batt, even stock wiring.
