Alternator Question?

I am very soon getting some premier 12's and a 3000 watt amp. Both subs hold 1000 RMS and 3000 peak. However, I talked to a friend who is mostly known for bullshit lies but i am just making sure, he says that running that many watts through my car will mess up my alt. and fry some wires and stuff, is this true or is he just full of shit, He said that it would require a new battery.

he kinda knows. you won't burn wiring, unless you screw up the install. it won't kill the alt right away. you'd have time to upgrade if you have to.

i would upgrade your big 3 and see how much voltage drop you get after that. and its not necessarily how many watts you are running, but what kind of current your amp will pull

what kind of car do you have?? with my car it was ok off 3000rms with only one extra yellow top in the back...friend has a 200amp alt and 1200 watts and has a lil dimming still

Best way to see if you are gonna need a HO alt is to hook everything up and see what kind of voltage drop you are getting.

please dont listen to him and get proper upgrades before hooking it up...if those upgrades arent enough to keep a steady high voltage then you will know you need more but at least have something to suffice until you get more upgrades

Its a 1999 Two Door Tahoe and I was thinking of getting a Boss 3000W D Monoblock Amp. Had a system in it b4 with a 1200 watt amp and got some dimming in the headlights, but I was wondering how much a new alternator would cost. Also is there anyway around a new Alt., such as batteries or such?And if I do need a new alt. what how many watts should i get. Lemme know
