alternator question

i just called up a local shop, and got a quote of $250 for a rewinding.

it'd be a send out and he said i could go from 80 amps to 140 amps.

but he didn't recommend trying to get any more than that or it could adversely affect performance at idle.

limits to how big it can be built up to ar limited to case size and the parts the auto electrical place has
i'm not too familiar with the internal workings of an alternator, but i was told he could get mine built up enough to do 200 amps (at 1500 rpm's), but making this big would actually decrease output at idle.

well right now mine is a 40 i need at least a 200 if not more
don't think that can happen.

and 40 amps? what kind of car? seems VERY low.
