Alternator pulley

you remove the pulley and your ho alt isnt going to be as ho as it was...think about it, the alt spins more with the smaller pulley, generating more power. you put a smaller pulley on, and youre going to decrease the amount of power generated. have you tried belt dressing?
If you mean something like a lubricant it will not work because belt itself at the point where the tensioner pushes on it.

have you tried any places that sell just belts? Might have to search online, but you can go off your part # and look for something a little longer. I can't believe another VW car doesn't use the same style but a little longer...

I have looked everywhere. Been to every part store in town even the dealer. Ive looked on-line with no luck.

my point of saying put the other pulley back on was to test and see if the ho alt was requiring more hp to run. if it is and slips with the original pulley, then you will have to custom mount another idler somewhere close to the alt to get more belt surface area on the alt's pulley.

lulz...then your parts dealer is a dumbfuck....

look at your stock belt size and get one that is slightly shorter. they have walls of belts of all sizes and they will have one that is a half inch shorter.

The issue is not slipping. The belt is rubbing against itself where the tensioner is pushing on it. I could find a smaller belt issue would be solved.

I wish it was that simple. They have the stock belt. As stated earlier I have a double-ribbed belt meaning it has grooves on both sides. Heres a diagram to show what I mean.

...then go to vw and tell them you need a belt that is 1/2 inch shorter and they should be able to go to their wall and get you one.

if all else fails, then get the factory number from the parts store and adjust the part number to the length you need....then go order it

As stated I have already done this.
