Alternator Issue/Question!!

I took my car to a shop yesterday, and they said that my alternator only is about 80a. I have a 99 Honda Accord Ex. I am looking into getting another alternator with a higher output. But I do not know how much output I should get.

I have two amps, I have 3 fuses of 30a going to the one and 2 fuses of 40a going to the other one.

The guy at the shop told me that the only way to achieve this is by buying a new alternator customized with more amperage, and that getting an alternator the same size as my stock one with more just wire inside will cause it to overheat and I will only have problems with it. Does anyone have any info about this? And How much output should I get for my alternator?

Should I get one custom made with more room or buy one online with more wire in it? Thanks for your time.

more wire is whats gonna give you more amps . a bigger case really isntgonna cool any better . you may get better advice by posting the size ofthe 2 amps and more than likely from the fuzes you listed you dont need a bigger alt

You definitely need more alternator, that's for sure.. The stock 80 (50 @ idle) is barely adequate to run the vehicle..

If your looking for options, our standard alternator for the Accord's is 190 Amp, but we build large case conversions in 230, 275, and 315 Amps... The 190 is a large case Denso and does 130 at idle, the large case GM conversions will do between 150-175 at idle, and just FYI, most of the 2.3 Accords we've done only idle at around 700 RPM..

Anything built from something the same size as your stock alternator is a waste of money.

Would I have to customize my car to fit a bigger alternator??
