Alternative to big-3?

Here's my setup right now:

8-Gauge wire battery + running to my 200w rms 600 peak RF amp for my subs.

8-Gauge wire battery + running to my 100w rms 400 peak Jensen amp for my surrounds.

Both are grounded close to the amps to the chassis with a clean ground. My lights dim pretty badly with such little power. It looks like my chassis to battery ground is a mere 8-gauge wire. If I run 8-Gauge from battery - to my amps, should that fix my dimming lights?

I have a bunch of 8-gauge laying around but no 2-gauge (upgrading soon) for the big-3. This is my daily driver which is why I need a quick fix.

300w RMS total and you have bad dimming?!?

I would suggest you're alternator and/or your battery have absolutely had it, friend //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

yea, 300w rms shouldnt dim that badly... i would get my battery tested, and yea, 8 gauge upgrades wouldnt hurt, double of triple them up if you have enough, but get that alt + batt tested

xj as in a jaguar?
something's broken, or wired wrong
Ha i wish, Jeep Cherokee's model "number" is XJ. thanks for the ideas guys. The stock alternator on the cherokee is a 117 amp. I just switched the battery out for a new Orbital one, and still dims. Im guessing my alternator is on its way out //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

u could also just a capacitor for a quick fix, you wouldnt need a big one just something to give it some extra power on those hits

iono just something to think about cuz I was running like 400watts or so to my first sub with only a 90amp alt (90 amps at full rpm....) and just a small 1/2 farad cap fixed it......now unfortunatly even a 3farad cap wont fix my 9500 =/ guess 1100watts is just too much for a cap lol.....and Im way too lazy to put in the other alt right now

no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no

RRUUUNNN from the cap, if your system isnt charging properly right now, no need to add something else it has to charge up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I know, i've heard that a cap is merely a band-aid for your real problem, and i'll never run one. Even when I upgrade to 1200w rms, its gonna get new wiring and a HO alt -- no cap.

I think I'll be upgrading my alt... soon. How much are those things anyhow??
