alternater & battery

If i bought a 16Volt 140amp alternater and ran an optima yellow top 12volt battery would my amp be seeing over well over 12 volts or would the battery limit the voltage? Because my amp is rated at its maximun rms at 17volts and im trying to get as close as i can to this.

a yellowtop will explode once it reaches 18 volts...i found out the hard way.

i wouldn't run a 16v alternator for your main alt... ur car wasn't designed for it... if you want to do that you should use 2 alts.. the stock one and then the 140amp solely for your amp
