Alt When Idle..?

I have been looking around for a HO Alt and I ended up emailing Dom.. He sent me back a great list of them that I could choose from.. Then he said that when your idle, the Alt produces about 40% of what it could do max depending on your RPMs.. Well I was thinkin'.. What happens to your electrical when it is in this Idle state..? Wouldn't it be harmful if if went this low and your system was up high..?

You're right about that. I would say as long as you're not really getting on it nothing really bad should happen.......for the most part your amps just won't put out as much. It would be like how some amps are rated @ 12.5 volts compared to 14.4 volts. So as long as you're not trying to wake up the neighborhood at an idle there shouldn't be a problem. My friend put a smaller pulley on his alt so that he's getting the max out of his alt at idling speed. Problem is if he does too much highway speed driving he will burn it up.....so its a give and take I guess. Your battery takes over at idle when the alternator can't handle the load.
