Alt vs batteries?

god **** that blows man, glad i have not ran across this prob yet

i litterally spent 7 months doing research on HHR h/o alty's, i have called all the major US alty distributors (all of them were like "huh? HHR? is that an amp?)

and they just said ship it in and we will tighten the coils for you, give you 15-30 more amps...... uhhh great and all but i need more than 105 amps out of an alty.

I went to local shops and some of them said YA! we can do it, you dont have to get a car specific alty for it.... and then i told them that 3 other guys shyt set on fire and they were like.... well we cant warranty that kind of thing. If i change out my alty my warranty is void so the electrical gets fukd.... then i am fukd!

The fukin thing sets on fire when you put a higher out put alty in there. i met 3 guys with the same model did it and they all did the same thing. I heard of it happening to 2 guys and then i met a 3rd guying saying they wired it wrong, so i kept his info and added him to my buddy list. I shot him an email 3 months later and he said "2 weeks ago my alty started smokin!".

Amperage shouldn't cause it to catch fire.Voltage is what causes the problem.Did they have it to high?Like I said my jeep has an ECU controlled alt and I have had no problems.Nust be soething with those HHR's.

This is true as long as you can fab a bracket really any alt will work.But it will void a factory warrenty (if they know about it)But I don't see it causing a fire.

i found an explanation for this back in 2007 when i gave up my look for alty's (i almost cried) and it had something to do with the complicated computer setup in the HHR.

I met Ed Lester on Ca.com here. He has 10k hifonics amp... I begged him please tell me where you got your alty at and he doesnt have but the stock one. He swears that he heard one will be released in december but i am not sure how this could be with out any ECU/computer changes under the hood.

WOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWW. i didnt know they would last that long, i wasnt think near that long. If thats the case i'm just gonna get the batteries which should be fine for my needs by the info i just read. If i see that is isnt which from what was typed i dont see being the case i'll look into the alt then.

just to clarify they can last a 30-40 minute drive around town right?

(2) KINETIK 2400's modded to also run at 16v (if wanted).

amps being powered are a crunch 3000 pro, sax 100.4?

Honestly your setup isnt gonna hurt with just knetics.

You may be running the life out of those batteries fast but i ensure they will last 1.5 years AT LEAST!

eventually a h/o alternator is what you need. you put the alty in there and hmmmmm... it will be like warm apple pie.

Oh hell yeah you could drive around for that amount of time.Like I said the batteries will always be recieving a charge from your alt.Will a bigger one help down the road proably.But bang for the buck is deffenatily the batteries.

ya dude you are more then good to do this allday long, like i said the only thing you risk at all is drying up the bats alittle fast, turn it down 3 blocks before your house to recharge your bats and to keep the guys next door looking at somone else's car to rob and your good
