Alt to Batt wire on 03 Mustang

The stock wire from alt to battery on my car runs from the alt to distribution fuse box then to battery. I am adding a HO alt soon and was wondering if I could just leave that wire just like it is, and run a 1/0 wire from alt directly to battery post. Just wanting to make sure there wont be any problems not upping the wire going to the fuse box(or whatever its called). I was also thinking about fusing this wire but alot of people say its not necessary. The wire will only be prolly 20" or so. Any ideas would be great.

Thanks

Chuck

No, you dont replace your stock wiring, you simply add to it. With your lead from the batt to the alternator, fuse it with the maximum recommended fusing for that wire. Do that, and you'll be good...

A fuse is there to protect the wire should it carry too much voltage and cause it to burn. Is it necessary, not explicity but it wont hurt and could possibly save your ***...
