alt or batt. problem

alright so, my batt ist holding a charge after i shut the car off. and the car wont start unless i jump it or charge the batt back to like 14.5v so the car can start. no problem while the car is started. im wondering if this is because of the alternator is not charging the battery when the engine s on.

but i did go through 3 foot puddle the other day in my semi lowered mazda, with the alt being closer to the bottom of the engine lol.

Well if your alt was junk it wouldnt allow the car to remain running, it may be a starter issue as well but its hard to tell. First t hing I would do is go to an Auto store and have them test your battery and then your alternator as they have machines that do both. true, true. my batt needs distilled water in it every so often,so it might be that, just have to get some. im looking at a new battery anynways, like powermaster or kenitik which ever is cheaper right now.

A car can run on a bad alt. The car can run until the battery starts to go dead and the voltage gets too low for the car electronics to work.

I had my regulator harness disconnected from my alt for days by accident once before my car started acting up and I figured it out.

turn the car off...

disconnect the negative lead on your battery...

get a test light and hook it up between the negative post and the negative lead...

if it lights up at all, something in the car is draing your battery

you guys think the reason it died is because the discharge and recharge rate ist high enough for my needs? its a deep cycle interstate but i havent finished the big 3. dont have the alt to batt wire, the most important of the 3 lol. but the batts been fine for like over a year.

Yeah, it's one of the more important wires, but that shouldn't have any effect on your battery draining like it is. It sounds like you may have a dead cell in your battery. I'd have it checked and then look into a real battery. The Odyssey batteries are great, as are the Kinetiks.
