I'm surprised I haven't come across this thread. From every one of your posts it doesn't seem like the alt at all, I don't know how you all arrived at this conclusion? The fact that it didn't start.. means the bat is dead. OK, next, jumped and ran until you put it into gear.. then died. It was running on the alt.
Either way, even if you suspect both. Why wouldn't you just change the bat first, then go from there? Cars nowadays have all kinds of sensors and computers that regulate different things.
