Alpine's new CDA-9813 looks promising!

Like many of you I would imagine, I got my new Crutchfield catalog in the mail yesterday and started flipping through it to look at the new products for 2003. One of the head units that really caught my attention was Alpine's new CDA-9813 MP3/CD model.

I had looked at the CDA-7894 while shopping last year and ended up going with the Kenwood eXcelon X859 instead because I liked the display a little better. The CDA-7894 had a pretty archaic "calculator style" LCD, it seemed.

Yeah, I know... that's a petty issue but still. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

But the new CDA-9813 may make me sell the eXcelon and go back to Alpine. That sucker looks sweet! Multicolor display, typical Alpine clean interface layout, not too much {bling bling} silver or chrome to catch a passerby's eye ... perfect!

Alpine's own website has NOTHING about the CDA-9813 listed yet and Crutchfield says it won't be available until the end of January 2003. Do any of you resident shop owners / workers have any hands on experience with demo models yet? I'd love to hear some first hand reports on them.

never heard or seen anything about it yet...but i do know it will most likely be great. i have yet to hear a legit complaint about an alpine HU. eXcelon HU's are also good...but i believe alpine has it beat.

i read about it in crutchfield. i would like to play around with it. i have the 7894 which is the same level of that deck. the other one plays WMA/MP3 compared to the 7894's only MP3... and has a different display.

Hmmm... you know, the new Alpine 9815 actually looks even better than the 9813. Dot-matrix display instead of the old LCD style. Very sweet.

(Click pic for Crutchfield's stats on this model)

Both the 9813 and 9815 bring a 5-band EQ to the head unit, something the older 7894 was sorely lacking, IMO. Too bad the 9815 doesn't come out until March 2003. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Looks great!

Yeah, it does look great but I am not sure I can hold off that long. I am probably going to stick with my eXcelon X859 for the time being as it's a great deck in and of itself. It's time for me to start gutting the interior to lay down some Second Skin and finish this project once and for all. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

just a q who needs a eq to put peaks in the response of a stereo system i you are buying a deck like that you usualy are after some sq and for sq you should not need a eq at all personaly all the abss/trebel boost i need comes from the deck's normal bass/trebel controls and i only use 1 db of trebel boost at 17.5k because i have a dip as a result of tweeter position. i hope no one takes this personaly and creates a flame fest outa this because i am just puting a point accros.

but by all means that deck looks prety good and has potential.

bass_mekanik: In a perfect world with a perfect sound system, you would be right about not needing an EQ. But I like having the ability to bring in a little more midrange and tone down the highs some, if the desire hits me. I use the equalization features on my eXcelon 859 to correct problems, not boost bass out the ceiling. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

**** Alpine! They've pushed back the release date for the CDA-9815 until mid March now. It was supposed to be released yesterday. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif
