Alpine's GlideTouch is Gone!

if i had a deck, it would need to be as simple as possible. i need to be able to work it without looking (or at least have a remote)
why would you have to look? if anything it would be easier to find such a large button...

and really the only time you use it is if you're searching through the songs to find a certain one, which you would have to look to see what you're selecting anyway.

the only time i ever use is the one time i set my crossovers and then if im using an mp3 cd and want to get to a track fast but i usually just listen to all the songs i put on the cd.... hence why i put them on there its never even used

Most the people that ***** about it never even owned the 55. 80% of the people i talk to that have used it in their car daily either don't mind it, or enjoy it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
Maybe these non-owners didn't buy the 55 because (i) the performance wasn't up to par and/or (ii) they demoed the GlideTouch feature and decided it not a useful feature. I personally demoed a unit from Crutchfield alongside an Eclipse 8455 earlier this year for 30 days. While Alpine's BioLite was unmatched, it's GlideTouch was a nuisance -- that along with subpar SQ performance made me returned the unit to the retailer.

Ok well from now on i don't want you to give any new shit a chance. Wouldn't want you to make yourself out to be a hypocrite.

Only Alpine that I know of off-hand that will still feature the GlideTouch is the DVA-9965. There's about 2 people in the Western Hemisphere that own that HU.

GlideTouch is gone. Good riddance. Piss-poor ergonomics -- impossible to use when driving at speeds of over 10 MPH.
It may be better ergonimically but it still looks like any other Alpine deck I've ever seen. Why can't Alpine try another look?? I mean they all have the one rotary knob with flanking lit up buttons around it and that is the same as all the other decks they've put out in recent history. I mean even Pioneer and Eclipse have tried new looks. Albeit the dual faced Pioneers and the newest Eclipses leave a bit to be desired but atleast they're putting out something a little different. I don't know maybe I'm just off my rocker. What does everyone else think.???

I love my 9855!

I switched from a 9851 because I couldnt stand the single line scrolling text! Now my title and artist are displayed on the same screen. Also the tiny buttons on my 9851 made it tricky to tune in the desired station (talk about a distraction when driving over 10mph). It is packed with features and the adjustable color display is like: "da bomb"! The slide touch bar is "ok" but i rarely use it while the car is in motion so I do agree on the distraction part if and only if you must use it when the car is in motion. I used it to set up my HU once installed and thats about it. I use the remote, A LOT, with Sirrius and Ipod...those two sources are what I mainly listen to.

Glide touch is just a "cool feature" in my oppinion and in no way shape or form does it make the unit any less attractive because of it.

eeh they all ****...

9835 was the last decent HU by alpine...and it sucks honestly. When it dies I'm either going pioneer or eclipse.

PS - the pioneer 7700 is pimp the pioneer mp80 is fugly...

I agree, the 9833 which I had was not so special and recently got pwned by my Excelon 889 - substantial SQ improvment....

Alpine IMO is cooked and fried, the 2005-2006 models are nothing to run out an buy, plus they have a ZERO support system, atleast with Kenwood and even Pioneer I could drop them an Email and they would happily answer my tech question, and at Kenwood the peeps actually sound enthusiastic that someone uses thier product and are like hey call us well hook you up

which makes me feel good that I own the HU(s).

As for Pio,I wont buy one ever again because they internally short out/ground out

very often with the RCA's so fvck em..

That was one year and the problem has been fixed so you wouldn't have to use that as a reason not to buy Pioneer anymore.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif But if you feel better using that as reasoning go right ahead. All in all its your money and you spend it how you see it fit.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

What the heck are you talking about. I gave this new "shit" a chance, a 30 day chance then decided it was a useless feature. And apparently Alpine thought it was also since they decided not to keep it on for the 2nd year. If it works for you then great.

I'm going to sample some new "shit" with other professionals at CES this week. Try making sense with your arguments along with supporting reasons next time, ok Tex? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Thats untrue.....They still GND out, usually associated with the removal weather it be deliberate or by accident of an RCA plug while the HU is under power....

Don't worry man, I agree. Adam just can't imagine anyone not thinking highly of pioneer...even if they fuck up... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
