I have a mrd-605 rated at 600 watts and a 12 inch type r in my car with a alpine head unit, i just got it installed and i really like it. it hits really hard when i get to about like 16, but before that i can't hear it at all, does that mean i need to change my gains or something or what?

Sounds like a crossover issue...what's your high pass Xover set to on the amp?

your subs or all the speakers? try turning up the subwoofer level on your h/u

does the crossover have anything to do with the actual volume levels other than say like a +6db boost of a certain freq?

what do you mean by high pass crossover, sorry, im kinda new to car audio. its just my sub, the sub's turned up all the way up to 15

oops jack i misread that post sorry. but the high crossover he's talking about a switch on your amp--it might say something to the effect of lpf-full-hpf low pass filter/high pass filter. for your subs you want to put it on low pass filter.
