That's really too bad. I run alpine amps for both my speakers and my sub. I have never had a issue with either one of them. Very clean, and plenty of power. I have no expereince with the particular amp you are talking about. Could just be a bumm steer so to speak.

My CDA 9886 has been replaced with a Pioneer Premier DEH 980BT. Before with both my 9884 and 9886 I had to have the gain dial at or around the .5 or 1 volt mark to get the right voltage reading on the dmm. Haven't taken any readings or tested it yet but with this is a 5 volt HU. If I put the gain setting on the amp all the way counterclockwise to 4 volts then go just a tad clockwise I get a nice linnear volume change on the sub.

Everything also sounds fine with the mid/high amp adjusted to just a tad under 5 volts. More tests to come but the fact that the amp gains come closer to matching the head unit's voltage rating with this HU with everything sounding good indicates my other two Alpines had week sub pre outs.

i've had this problem too with another amp of mine. except i would get the right amt of wattage but it wouldnt go higher. like i would have the volume at 5. and it would already be blasting. and if i change it to per say 30, the bass would be the same.

but i think you should check your xovers. and your gain especially . i wouldn't use bass boost so much.

and try messing around with the EQ on the deck.

or even try checkin the deck. and voltages everywhere
