I have a swr1242d in a ported box that really doesn't sound like much until I add in bass boost. I have the sub connected to a mrdm605. Is there something I need to look at or settings that need to be adjusted?
Is your gain set correctly? You should at least be getting mirror shaking goodness with 600rms. Check the gain on your amp and also check the settings on your head unit. You shouldnt need to use bass boost at all.

The eq on the head unit is flat, I am crossing the sub @ 125hz. And my gain is at 1.5 volts (digital display on amp)

You should cross your sub at around 80hz, otherwise it will sound weird because the music will sound like it's coming from where the sub is (it's called being able to "localize" the sub)... but that doesnt have to do with getting your output right. Use a DMM to set your gain. If you don't know how, there are a couple good videos on youtube.
