Alpine SWR 1222D Need help if possible

Get off my lawn.
My boss' son is thinking about buying this sub (single Alpine SWR1222D) The shop he wants to buy it from wants to put it in a pre-fab (I KNOW) box that is 1.953ft^3 after displacment, it will be 1.88. Now, everything I have read is .7ft^3 to 1.0ft^3 if going sealed. Ami I correct in telling him to put it in the correct size box? I imagine the 1.88 will make it sound muddy as hell. ALSO. they are recommending him the HiFonics TXi 1008D amp (1,000 W Class D) The Alpine sub has a RMS of 500W with a max of 1K. He is going for more SPL than SQ, but does not want to run a ported box (I know... WTF.. I even offered to build him a box for his trunk) Can I get some opinions???

Oh yah... alllll sub, all other speakers will be ran off the HU........

its a type R 12

a bunch of people on this forum run them.

It doesnt need that much power especially in a box that big.

500-700Watts and that box will get loud and itll sound ok in that box but in a ported around 2.2 cubes would get that sub pounding alot louder

o btw .7-1.0 cubes is small for a single 12

I am aware it is a Typr R

Thats what the Alpine specs call for. .7 to 1.0 sealed and 1.7 ported. He wants to be loud, but doesnt want ported.. Id think if it calls for 1.0 max sealed, then it is going to sound pretty muddy in a box almost 2X the manufacturer recommended size. THEN double the recommended power and you are asking for trouble..

first off these are manufacturer specs and honestly i have run quite a few of them and they wont perform as well in a .7-1.0 cubic foot box. I dont care what the manufacturer says cuz i have run them in their spec box. give it 1.2 preferably and it will perform at its best. 1.8 is big and running over its rms will put stress on the sub but i guarantee he will get louder with that 1.8 then he will with a .7. Not to be a jerk but

that hifonics will not put out 1KW more like 700-800

the type r can handle over its RMS and people throw 700watts them all day long

YES he will have to be easy on the gains

Im just telling you from real life experience with this sub take it for what its worth ... just my .02

1500w RMS to each 12? Your crazy bro.

The hifonics will throw out like 750-800, which should be ok as long as he doesn't get crazy. I would throw it in a 1.3-1.5 Cu if he is going sealed, 1.8 is a little big.
