Alpine Remote and iDA-X001

I just bought the full function Alpine remote (RUE-4190) to run my iDA-X001 and I can't seem to get it to control the menu system of the iDA-X001. I want to be able to go into the iPod's menu like I can from the head unit itself. Does anyone have this combination (or this remote with another iPod supporting Alpine HU) and has had success in navigating the iPod functions? I can't even get into the head unit's setup menu using this remote. But everything I've read says this is the remote for this HU.
