alpine quality in jeopardy?

Headroom means.. *L* it means how well or gracefull and amp goes into clipping, how well it handles transients "however ya spell it" and just simply how it behaves when pushed over the limit. Most new amps with there crappy powersupplies hit a brick wall and let the smoke out when overdriven, while older amps with no features but a powersupply capable of double the amps output can melt a vc and usually put out twice it's rated power "clipping of course" and survive, speakers usually did not! Usually just getting hot enough to melt your carpet //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

hmmm, so when u say pushed over the limits.. that means the gain at the max? and what exactly is clipping, i neverrr really understood what it was really...is it when speakers starts to distortt when setting the gain?

hey dude, i have a alpine mrv-f407 and i use for my component kit using the 3WAY active xover from my hu... i like it a lot, has all the protections i need, sounds GREAT and retailed for a VERY high price (like 550 dollars or something... i paid like 190 thou LOL)... it even has a subsonic filter, which doesn't seem to work when i tested it, but maybe that's because i do the cuts straight out of my head unit and by having this amp on FULL PASS mode it should have it shut down... other impressions are definetely only the greatest... sound quality must be mentioned again (clean as any alpine of the good ole days must be), solid construction, somewhat flashy (if that matters to you)... negative aspects are that the Battery and the ground bornes should be bigger so you shouldn't have to use terminals on it (the bigger cables you can fit in them are 8mm² cables if you're lucky with soldering)...

this is a picture of me when i had just arrived home after ebaying it lol

(yeah im defintely an ugly fsck LOL)

i also took pictures of it's insides and sent the pics to AmpGuts.com... i've rarely seen an amp well built as it http://ampguts.realmofexcursion.com/Alpine_MRV-F407/

but this amp was made in Korea, im sure the ones built in China will have a lower grade built level...

hope i've been helpful to you ... btw i LOVED the thread, will read it again later...

oh well... it is kinda fun talking to u guys..haha:) !! thats a nice forum really!
It's all good bro:)

One thing we can all agree on...and there is no contesting this...is that amps "sound" different becuse they all have different abilities to do what they are designed to do - AMPLIFY!!

Also, we have all owned Alpine products here...some of us many times and many types...and we have all had good experiences with them and not so good experiences with them. This does not mean the Alpine does not make quality products....it just means that we all have different perceptions of what we believe the poduct is supposed to deliver. And IMO, Alpine is not delivering like they used to in some of their products. I for one have never seen a negative review on any F#1 Status product....but that could be me.

I fully agree with you dudee, and its the same for any compagny! There is no perfect compagny.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

but hey i dont understand this:

Clipping: The distortion that occurs when a power amplifier is overdriven. This can be seen visually on an oscilloscope, when the peaks of a waveform are flattened, or "clipped of," at the signal's ceiling.2

how can u know if the amplifier is overdriven without an oscilloscope?

hey thanks for your opinions guys(just got up.....time for work)//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

thanks for those pics slaugh(nice).

wish i could see many more pics like that of other amps:)

Well your HU is the sound signal source, right.....and that drives the amp....the amp amplifies....and your speakers react. So you can go to the source (most likey the volume is too high) or the end product which is distortion played by the speakers.

Clipping is not always "bad"...some might even say slight clipping is prefered...pop in Nirvana's Nevermind album and you will know what I'm talking about...it was recoded with the signal ~20% clipped //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

omgg i got -16 point cuz of this thread!!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif wtf lolll:rolleyes:
