Alpine Ipod connector PROB

Hi guys, Newbie here i got a problem on connecting my ipod on my H.U. i got a Alpine 9874E H.U and a interface connector, output is directly connecting to ipod dock. i bought a interface connector that fits perfectly. when i connect the ipod to my H.U. ipod has the alpine logo on. problem is i cant control my ipod even when i place source to aux + or aux PMD? ive tried reseting both ipod and H.u? wish you guys can help. thanks in advance
