Alpine hu old compared to new

Ok i have a alpine cda-7897 hu, my question is i dont hear about these anymore only the series starting with 9***. I am going for sq am i missing out by having a older alpine are the new ones better? Thanks for the help

That is a solid HU that will give you more control for tweaking your sound than the newer alpine HU's until you get to the CDA-9887 (pretty much has the same sound tuning features, plus a 24bit Burr Brown DAC). Alpine did away with their Bass Pro functions on all their units, except the 9887. The newer units will give you more options when it comes to connecting additional equipment, but if you are ok with your unit, I do not see a reason to swap it out.

I had a cdm 7871 and went to a cda9830 for the time alignment...I'll never go back.

I hear you on the time alignment.....makes a big difference. His HU has the time alignnment feature, plus a 5-band parametric EQ, and a 6-position crossover with variable slopes.

IIRC the 9887 doesn't have a 3-way xover. After the 9835, they really have skimped. Only reason I use a newer Alpine is because of the ipod control.

Thanks for the responses. I think i will stick with the one i got then. I was hoping i was not getting to far behind time. Does anyone know if i can control my mrd 1005 threw this hu with amp link?

I think the HU's that came out right after are the ones that came with that function.

Yea I just found that out and hence ordered one. Alpine's website just said HP/LP so I was under the assumption it didn't have a 3-way xover. I thought it was strange to have a 6 position time alignment and no 3-way xover.
