Alpine headunit loses button functions?

So I am having an odd issue with my Alpine unit that I have searched and searched for a solution to with no luck. When I shut off my vehicle, if I turn it back in within 5 minutes or so from shutting it off, my headunit will have a long delay before powering up (30 seconds as opposed to 3 seconds). Once its powered back up, I lose sound, I lose the response from pressing the buttons (except for power and source), and CDs just hold at the place they are in as if paused, and iPod holds as well. Its almost as if the headunit's processor boots up only partially. If I restart the vehicle immediately, nothing changes or gets any better. If I turn off the power to the headunit and turn it back on, nothing changes or gets any better. If I turn the vehicle off and then turn it back on 10 minutes later, it goes back to working normal again. Any thoughts?

Wires are soldered, dimmer option is switched off, no blown fuses, retains memory of stations and place it left off at for CDs and iPod, and no amplifiers or additional speakers are installed, all factory.

HELP!

A good example, if you abruptly remove power from your computer and then quickly replace it, does it still operate correctly.

Depending on the complexity of your HU it requires time to store your setting, remember where you left off on you Hanna Montana track and fully discharge capacitors. Not to mention powering down and releaseing control of your auxiliary input (Sirius, xm, iPod,etc) a lot to do in a fraction of a second.

If I turn off the radio and then the radio right back on, no change. If I turn off the ignition and then right back on, I have power to the headunit, but no audio and no controls (except for power and src). Regardless if I leave the vehicle on, or shut it off and sit, 10 minutes later I can restart the vehicle and the radio will work like normal again.

Its acts as if it was booting up the processor for the headunit and just froze, but I have to wait for a capacitor to charge up, or drain down for that matter. I just did another reset on the system and will try my luck again today.

some Alpine radios have a reset button - check with your manual. also, unplug the harness and let it sit for a while - just to fully reset the unit.

but i've ran Alpine for 18 years and i've never had one do that. what is the model number?

Is this hopeless? The only thing I can think back and relate this issues to would be when the previous vehicle this headunit was in was in an accident. Pulled the headunit and moved in to my truck. The only thing that was wired up different was this time I wired up the illumination wire. Now the Alpine has two illumination wires... is it possible I am wired to the wrong one and causing these problems?
