i just installed an alpine cda-9830 and it is freakin awesome. lots of features and tuning options.

this is the first time for me to tune an equalizer and have a few questions. it has 4 bands with each band containing 3-5 frequencies.

band 1..........40-60-90 hz

band 2...........100-150-200 hz

band 3..........500-700-1000-2000-5000 hz

band 4.........10,000- 12,5000-15,000 hz

i want to boost the frquency of 40 hz to about 7+ but i only want to boost the frequency of 90 hz to about 3+, but when i save the setting of one frquency it changes the other frequencys within that band to the same setting. for instance, if i set 40 hz to 7+, then 60hz and 90 hz will also be set 7+. is that how it is supposed to work? I thought i would be able to tune each individual frequency within the band and not just the band as a whole.

also could someone please explain the (Q) bandwidth thing. it has setting of 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 and i have no idea what this means.

thanks

doesn't that h/u have the feature where you can go to the alpine site --set all your preferences--download it to cd--pop the cd into your head unit and it will set it up for you? i know the 31 and 35 have that option.

from what i understand... u can only adjust one of the frequencies in the band...

band 1..........40-60-90 hz

band 2...........100-150-200 hz

band 3..........500-700-1000-2000-5000 hz

band 4.........10,000- 12,5000-15,000 hz

in band 1... you can choose either 40... 60... or 90... and adjust it from there... the "q" factor is the width of the frequency... 1... if u want a narrow peak... 1.5 if u want a medium peak... 2 if u want a wide peak

read through the book and read everything on setting the equalizer... it will explain it all

so basically since i wanna boost around the 35-50 hz range without boosting around the 90 hz range i should raise the 40hz frquency and give it a narrow peak?

boost at 40, and set the Q to 3, or whatever is highest
low Q = wide

high Q = narrow
oh ok thanks man. i thought a low q would be a narrow peak but i guess i had it backwards...thanks

EDIT: i just looked back up at slody4futbol and he says that a low q is narrow...so which is it????? hhahaha i'm confused
