Alpine F#1: DVI-9990 & PXA-h990

G-g-g-g-g-unity!
Anyone here with experience of either of these units?

I came across a deal too good to pass up on the h990 processor (less than $1000 BNIB), but can't afford to get the dvi right now (nor can I find it anywhere for sale).

I currently own the iva-d310 and h701 processor. I called alpine about keeping my monitor and they said it would be fine, though it would only act as a video display, and would not control anything in the system, since the dvi & h990 HAVE to be paired together to work.

Just curious if anyone here has experience with these units. I've been searching like mad but can't find much info other than the same ol'.

I've got a little experience with it. Just installed mine about 2 weeks ago. What are you looking to find out?
Just your opinions.

It's a lot of money, but if I can buy piece by piece I'll be alright.

I mainly worry about the external video. I really like having the ability to watch dvds (not while driving). I rarely do it anymore, but I like the ability to (Eagles DVD's sound soo good in the car).

I'd also like to know about the control through the dvi. It seems like it would be a huge PITA.

Do you have iPod ability? I would keep the deck I have now to control the iPod as well if I bought the converter.

It's just a big investment and I'm leary of it, though I really want it and hate to let this deal pass me by. Just anything you can help me out with would be nice. Any quams, pros, things you had trouble with, etc.

Thanks

Edit: Also, I was reading a couple different posts where people were having to run 2 processors. This thing is capable of a 3-way setup on it's own, correct?

So far I love it. Its a great unit if you have the $$$. My last H/U was the DRZ9255, which I still have (sitting on the shelf).

I'm not sure if you can buy them seperate. I know there becoming hard to get but check with Don.

I don't think it can control the Ipod. Some one else might have more knowledge on this.

It is capable of 3-way + sub on its own. I currently have it running 3way, just need to setup my sub stage. It will only require a second processer if you want to run 3 way active front with 2 way active surround sound + sub.

Is there much sense in buying the tmi-m990 (monitor) to go with the set? Like I said before, it after talking with Alpine tech earlier, it seems that my monitor (d310) would be just as good as far as purpose, since niether of them control the processor anyway.

.. I wish that DRZ9255 was sitting in my dash. For some reason I've got the hots for that particular head unit.. Last of the old-schooler SQ copper chassis non-DVD deadheads, not counting the P9. The processing plus those fabulous DAC's just fires me up.

I know the current pricing for the F1 set includes the TMI-M990 for free iirc. There was not price difference w/o the M990. I would rather have just a monitor as the second unit in the dash rather than a flip out h/u and only use it as a monitor. Plus the monitor doesn't have any extra buttons on it.

Yeah the DRZ is a great unit.

I think I filled you in on most of it, but I guess heres more...

As said earlier you NEED the DVI even to just turn on the H990.

iPod/Changer/ etc .. basically anything that is AiNET is usable, but you would need the KCI-500B - IONBUS to AiNET adaptor. With that you can piggybag as much things as you'd like.

Controlling the DVI is quite easy actually. All your immediate needs are at your fingertips. You can go more in depth navigating through, but its MUCH simpler to just use a laptop.

The people that are using dual 990s are simply for 7.1. With a single one you can run 4 way active.

Alot of people jumped on that deal and alas I ran out of DVIs for the time being. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Old school? The DRZ is still a current model and is readily available.

Extra opinions never hurt. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I'm still thinking about it. My wife's laptop just went out and I'm going to have to buy a new one this week. On top of that we just bought 2 puppies and after food, trip to the vet, and other necessities I'm out another $650.

My request still stands. Keep in touch and hopefully in the end I'll be able to pick it up from you, even if I have to sit on it for a year before I get use. Hopefully nothing else will come along that I'll have to pay for....Murphy's Law pwnts me.

Well.. I meant "old school" as in the styling and design.. CD only, no gimmick, no faceplate, copper chassis, over-built, metal face, quality. It's basic design hasn't changed in a long long time.. Just high-end audio only, instead of mp3, bluetooth, usb, DVD, etc. It's interesting that this unit still is quite available and current.. It's the one clarion unit I have respect for.
