I believe this unit does play MP3's as well as , DVD-Rs, DVD-RWs, CDs, CD-Rs, CD-RWs, and WMA's. If you used a search engine or went to alpine's website and looked up the detailed info you would find your answer. Also you do NOT need a dvd disk to burn MP3's. Its a regular cd audio disk, you just use the MP3 format to burn. Are you new to MP3's or something or new to car audio as most units that now come out on the market are mp3. Hope this helps!

Yes, i realize the unit play's mp3's as well as different dvd formats as does the previous IVA-D300 model does. However, I tried a dvd disk with just mp3 files on there in the IVA-D300 model and it never worked, however I haven't had a chance to try that with the IVA-D310 which is why I'm asking it here. Dont assume I'm just a jackass asking something which would be really obvious in a spec sheet of the unit. And no, it didn't help.
Maybe next time you should explain your question a little more thourough and you would get more help. I didnt assume anything? I simply asked if you were new to these things. In short: no. This alpine is like your last one; it only has the ability to read up to 255 (IIRC) songs from a disc. same reason why the ipod connection for them is a PITA, since it can only show 255 songs, 255 artists, etc at a time. I had to make playlists for each letter in the alphabet so I could find artists quicker on my ipod through this h/u. I also had the d300, too.
