Alpine cva 1004 questions

Hello all, question about the cva 1004.

A friend has hooked one of these up with a Myron and ???? DVD player model ad212. (forgot the second part of the name sorry)

No amps, just wanted to run the speakers he has. Well the radio sounds good, if you turn it up to 20 it fills the truck. Now if he throws a DVD in there he has to crank it to 35 and it is still barely audible. I keep telling him to get amps, the DVD manufacturer says it is a setting on Alpines end and I downloaded the manual and cannot find any solutions. Have tried different rcas, DVDs, CDs and still the same low level input that is so weak.

I sure would appreciate any help you all have.
